Lake Bolsena biodistrict recognized

On October 5 the Regional Council approved the identification and recognition of the Lake Bolsena biodistrict. After the positive opinion on September 9 of the technical commission evaluating the proposal, problems arose at the last moment regarding the request for membership by the Umbrian municipalities of Porano and Castel Giorgio. The obstacle was circumvented with their temporary exclusion.

The recognition of the biodistrict, which includes the municipalities of Acquapendente, Bagnoregio, Bolsena, Canino, Capodimonte, Celleno, Cellere, Farnese, Gradoli, Grotte di Castro, Ischia di Castro, Latera, Marta, Montefiascone, Piansano, San Lorenzo Nuovo, and Valentano (the municipality of Proceno was not included, probably due to an oversight of the regional offices), is a big step towards a sustainable enhancement of our territory: the participating municipalities focus on environmental protection and the health of the residents, on excellent agricultural products and on the development of eco-sustainable tourism attracted by our rich cultural heritage, by the environmental quality of the lake and its area, and by healthy and high quality food and wine products.

The next steps in the process which started five years ago are the definition of a draft statute, the acceptance of municipalities, companies, businesses, organizations, associations and individuals, and the appointment of corporate offices.
