Geothermal power at Castel Giorgio – the fight continues

On April 7, the ITW company filed an appeal with the Council of State against the judgement of the Regional Administrative Court (TAR) which had annulled authorisation relating to the Castel Giorgio plant. This appeal against the suspension of work as decreed by the TAR was dealt with in an urgent procedure on May 6 (with the main hearing scheduled for September 16).

On May 10, the Council of State granted the ITW’s request and suspended the verdict of the TAR on the grounds that if they did not “… the company would be deprived of any possibility to continue its project, and in particular it would be prevented from requesting any incentive to which it could be entitled”.

The Torre Alfina geothermal plant was definitively stopped by the Council of State on February 8. This new obstacle must now be faced with decisive and renewed energies otherwise the success achieved at the TAR will have been in vain. A win at the Council of State would mean a final rejection of the Castel Giorgio project and would constitute a strong deterrent to the development of other similar projects around the lake.

All of this entails additional legal fees and a consequent popular fundraising. The goal is to reach €15,000 and the collection will be managed by the Lake Bolsena Association. We will inform you of details shortly.
