On July 27th Sonja Zantl left us. She was a founder member of the BLEU committee, which  later became the Association. It was her initiative to bring together foreigners living around the lake to work together to protect the lake environment. She then became spokesman for the proposal to create a committee of European citizens. She was moved by a deep love for Lake Bolsena (she loved to start the day with a swim) and was scandalized by the neglect to which it is exposed: “Lake Bolsena has given me so much and continues to do so. And perhaps because of a sense of responsibility and gratitude, I feel the need to do something to preserve it as much as possible,” she told us. And she did: she put it into action, with her calm and constant energy, and with her great humanity. We’ll miss her.
