The lake and the elections

On the eve of the elections, candidates’ meetings with electors around the lake are increasing.
On Wednesday February 14th in Marta, it was the turn of the Civic List for Zingaretti, of the regional candidate Mauro Mazzola. In a public meeting, presided over by the vice-governor of the Lazio Region, Massimiliano Smeriglio, the issue of pollution of the lake and the River Marta were raised by the public, in particular by members of the Martana Nautical Association and some members of our association. A speech by Rosella Di Stefano (one of the co-ordinators of our educational program in 12 schools of the district) denounced the severity of the degradation of the waste water system and called on the Regional Authority to assume responsibility and effectively defend the health of the lake waters (as per European directive). The speech received the applause of the public present.

On Friday February 16th at the Municipal Auditorium of Bolsena, a conference organised by the M5S on the dangers of geothermal energy and on the problems caused by the disastrous sewage system was held. M5S MEP Dario Tamburrano reported on his work in favour of a European legislation that would penalise polluting geothermal plants. Matteo Simoncini, M5S candidate to the House, presented a list of pumping stations and irregular discharges in the municipality of Montefiascone (see also the article of the Osservatorio Ambientale del Lago di Bolsena). Georg Wallner, secretary of our Association, illustrated the consequences of the increase in the concentration of phosphorus in the lake and the necessary measures to be taken (see also eutrophication).
