FOR THE CONSTITUTION
OF A LAKE BOLSENA BIO-DISTRICT
THE CONCEPT
A Bio-district is a geographical area where citizens, farmers, the business community, associations and public administration agree a plan for the sustainable management of local resources. In a Bio-district the natural, cultural and productive resources of a territory are promoted and enhanced by local policies aimed at safeguarding the environment, local traditions and knowledge and historical/cultural heritage.
A starting point for a Bio-district is agriculture: it is necessary to help the development of sustainable agriculture and typical products in the territory with the creation of a protected and controlled brand. The products thus obtained will be included in places which enhance the quality and recognise the right price: direct sales markets, joint purchasing groups, affiliated shops, restaurants, public canteens.
The sustainable management of the territory is not limited to agriculture alone, but also concerns the protection and use of our natural heritage (lake, woods) and all the economic activities that take place in the territory: tourism, fishing, crafts, construction and more. An opportunity to create jobs in the “Green Economy” sector, which has been constantly expanding for years.
Finally, to use shared management methods, with flexible and interconnected structures.
THE IDEA
We therefore propose the establishment of a Bio-district in the basin of Lake Bolsena – the heart of Etruria – to develop and protect its rich environmental, historical and cultural heritage, which attracts people from all over the world; to develop an economy in harmony with nature, promoting and strengthening the identity of the territory. Also, sustainable management of natural resources is an ecological imperative for the lake’s survival, to stop its deterioration and restore its state of health, in balance with human activities.

- Structure, members, spokesmen, offices
- Agriculture
- Which products, cultivation method, brand
- Technical / administrative support, checks (consumers?)
- Markets, agreements with shops, restaurants, hotels and canteens
- Financing

Promotion and development of work in sectors such as tourism, lake environment, waste and recycling, construction and urban planning, energy, education and social integration, health.
