We recently reported on the possibility of wind farms spreading in the Lake Bolsena area.

We are concerned about the proliferation of projects for individual wind turbines (one kilometre apart) of “medium” size (with an overall height, however, of around 100 metres). Thanks to their reduced output (less than 1 MW), these plants enjoy important benefits, including exemption from environmental impact assessments and individual approval by the province.

To date we have news of such projects in the municipalities of Montefiascone, Bagnoregio, Marta, Capodimonte, Cellere and Montalto di Castro. These are often by small companies which present inadequate and poorly drafted projects, and which sometimes – we were told by landowners directly concerned – act aggressively with threats of expropriation of land selected for the plant. This selection of land is mostly dictated by ease of implementation and by ideal landowners, who for the companies in this point of view are old and single people.

What is possible, therefore, is that in the not too distant future the lake district will be marked by 100m high wind turbines a kilometre from each other, with all the respective infrastructures, conduits, control units and distribution points: a serious danger for the ecological network of the lake and a huge disruption of the landscape.

A group of citizens have formed a committee and filed a complaint with the Public Prosecutor’s Office (for details see the press release). To support the cause, they ask all citizens to express in writing a reasonable opposition to be presented as part of the approval process.
