As our readers well know, geothermal energy and the worrying increase in agricultural areas devoted to growing hazelnut trees are among the major issues that face the Lake Bolsena basin today. Because of the urgency of these issues, the municipalities of the district are organising information sessions which the public may attend.

The first of which we have news is the public event promoted by the Mayor of Capodimonte to be held on Saturday 14 September at 5 pm at the Cascina, entitled “The future of Lake Bolsena and its territory”. As stated by the Mayor himself, the aim of the meeting is to “raise awareness among administrators and citizens on the future of agriculture in our area; to spread good rural practices; to counteract the worrying increase in intensive monoculture in a basin that already has quantitative and qualitative water problems; to discourage the use of fertilisers, replacing them with sustainable products to protect biodiversity “.

In the first part of the hearing, Piero Bruni and Carla Carsetti will explain the environmental issues facing Lake Bolsena, Giuseppe Nascetti will illustrate the impact of human activities on lake ecosystems, Bengasi Battisti will reflect on the role of conscious communities that take their destinies in hand and, finally, the archaeologist Andrea Babbi will focus on the territory of Bisenzio, which has been dramatically affected by sudden and extensive changes of crops (hazelnut trees), threatening the priceless archaeological heritage of the Capodimonte municipality.

In the second part of the hearing a public debate will be opened to which the mayors of the lake district are invited, in particular those who have courageously issued decrees to defend the territory from environmental damage. But the debate is also open to all citizens, especially farmers, so they may democratically express their opinions. The ultimate aim is to inform and be informed so that together we can make the right decisions to preserve a healthy territory for future generations.
