Everyone is talking a lot lately about intensive hazelnut monoculture, something which is about to colonise large parts of Orvieto, high Tuscia and the Maremma. The hazelnut project has obtained the support of our Regions, Category Associations and even European Rural Development Plans. However, many citizens, farmers and associations have raised doubts about the environmental, economic and social impacts that these plantations could have on our territory.
For this reason BLEU, which adheres to the Interregional Environmental Protection Network (RIPA), the network linking farmers’ organisations, committees and groups around Orvieto, Lake Bolsena and Lake Vico, invites citizens to participate in large numbers at a public meeting to be held at Palazzo dei Sette in Orvieto on March 16th at 10:00 am.
The theme of the meeting is I NOCCIOLI DEL PROBLEMA (The Nut of the Problem): the impact of intensive monocultures between Alfina, Orvietano and Tuscia.
