For many years Piero Bruni has been monitoring the lake water and publishing his findings in an annual report.
Unlike the measurements of the quality of bathing water conducted by ARPA Lazio (which takes samples in about 30 points around the lake, near the banks and on the surface) and the Legambiente surveys (which check the influx of polluted water into the lake at various critical locations), Bruni’s monitoring goes deeper, in every sense. His purpose is to determine the state of health of the entire lake, based on parameters such as the concentration of phosphorus and oxygen, at all depths at the same point in the middle of the lake. This is the only way to document the start of the eutrophication process that has begun to occur at the lake bottom.
His annual reports comment on these measurements in the light of other information relevant to the health of the lake.
