Work in progress – July 2019

On 9 July a hearing was held before the VIII Regional Commission, which was convened – as announced in the previous news – to explain delays to restoration work on the sewage system managed by COBALB.

What impression did we get from this hearing? As you can see for yourself by reading the extensive report from the Osservatorio del Lago di Bolsena, there is now a clearer picture of defaults, of work and administrative steps still to be done, of problems still to be faced.

After more than a year of work there are still many issues:

  • installation and commissioning of an unspecified number of pumps;
  • installation and commissioning of electrical panels, emergency generators and the remote alarm system;
  • not to mention the works yet to be started and/or not even planned: pipeline checks and replacement of some pipeline sections, resolution of the problem of waste water disposal on the western shore, renovation of municipal sewage networks, solutions for isolated houses and buildings…

The answers given by the representatives of the Region, Wanda d’Ercole and Massimiliano Proietti, seem insufficient: general explanations for delays and a time schedule that seems too optimistic – finishing the work on the collector within two months, complete transfer of management to Talete within three months, the purifier to be working well within five months?

One important fact emerged however: that as in the fight against hazelnut farming and geothermal energy, citizens and administrations are united in demanding a rapid and complete resolution of the sewerage problem: we will not leave the Region in peace until this work is completed.
