Lake Bolsena has a long and rich history of struggles in defence of its health (see the biography of Piero Bruni). Never before, however, has it seen such a mobilisation as in recent days and weeks: in all the communities officials have organised public meetings and conferences to inform about the dangers that threaten the lake; the geothermal project in Castel Giorgio, the spread of hazel plantations, and never forgetting the “eternal” problem of sewage system wastewater pollution.

In addition, it is the citizens who call for the protection of the lake and carry out their own protests: they surround the lake with their embrace, warning of geothermal danger by small informal meetings and with hundreds of banners made out of sheets displayed on houses in the villages, made by women, men and children together in the squares and on the beaches: “Hands off our lake”, “NO to polluting and speculative GEOTHERMY!”
